The History of the Inn
Several years ago, Pat and Brenda retired to Florida, feeling their days in NY were behind them. Soon thereafter, they decided to buy a cottage on Seneca Lake, where their family has a history since 1930. The plan was to visit Seneca Lake for 2 months a year and live in Florida – live in shorts year around. After buying their cottage, they discovered that the Inn was for sale in July, 2005. Because of it’s beautiful and scenic setting, the Inn aroused great interest. The decision was made to “go for it”. They immediately had a vision for the Inn to create a southern cottage style decor [Brenda is from Savannah, Georgia and is a gifted decorator] – to make it unique – to create a very comfortable and relaxed place reminiscent of places in the south in the early 1900’s.
Over the first 2 years of ownership, the existing Castle Point Motel was painstakingly redone as envisioned, including completely redoing and upgrading the water system, the heating, electric and plumbing, and adding air conditioning.
We began adding cottages in 2007. As we and several of our children bought cottages over a period of 8 years, we completely remodeled and upgraded them and included them in our rental options. Like the Inn, they are well maintained and have become very popular with our guests.
The result is a very charming and peaceful place, renamed The Savannah House Wine Country Inn & Cottages.
