The Finger Lakes are known for their many wineries, many offering wine tastings and tours, but there is much more to the Finger Lakes than grapes. Whether you are hoping for a quiet getaway with a loved one or an adventure with the whole family, there is something in the Finger Lakes for you.

Agriculture

The Finger Lakes region, having a large and plentiful rural surrounding, produces a wide variety of produce throughout the year. A number of farms allow you to pick your own fruits and most sell their produce at a number of markets and weekly farmers markets throughout the Finger Lakes.

History/Museums

Civil rights, religious freedom, literature, flight, boating and more have roots in the Finger Lakes. This has all been well documented and preserved in the many museums and historical sites found throughout the Finger Lakes. Glen Curtiss Flight Museum, Hammondsport is one of the best in the country. The National Soaring Museum, Elmira not only offers a modern display, but also has soaring rides at a reasonable cost.

Nature/Parks

At the heart of the Finger Lakes are, of course, the 11 pristine Finger Lakes themselves as well as the surrounding parks. Visit one of the state parks within the Finger Lakes region or get on one of the lakes that make up the region’s namesake. Enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer in the Finger Lakes. Hike the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park, or swim in a natural swimming hole at the base of the falls at Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca.

Outdoor Recreation

There is a wide array of outdoor fun to be had in any season in the Finger Lakes. Rest assured many businesses are open year-round and the Finger Lakes doesn’t close down in the winter. Visit one of the ski resorts during the winter, cast away to catch some fish during the spring, get on the water during the summer and enjoy the foliage during the fall.

Shopping

From smaller retailers, mom and pop shops, boutique stops, to high end brand names, the Finger Lakes has it all. The Windmill Arts and Craft Market is one of the country’s top 10, and is only 10 minutes from the Inn. The Outlet Mall in Waterloo offers a wide range of discount shopping.
